I’ve been a busy bee this week, writing for the wonderful ScreenInvasion and my brand-new site It Sounded Sweet (please check it out if you have time!) I’ve reviewed the amazing new BLACK KEYS album ‘El Camino’, and done a piece on a great Kickstarter project, ‘Tallahassee Turns Ten: A Mountain Goats Cover Album’. I’ll put the links to these below, and also to my short new bulletin about new RADIOHEAD material (expect a review of the two new tracks on Monday!)
5 Questions I Have For The Makers of SOURCE CODE – Spoiler Alert
Last night I sat down to watch SOURCE CODE, the 2011 ‘action thriller’ from Duncan Jones and starring the pretty-boy-who-isn’t-as-pretty-or-as-talented-as-Ryan-Gosling Jake Gyllenhaal. I expected to hate it from the off; ‘action thrillers’ really aren’t my thing. However, I did not expect to spend 93 minutes scratching my head and gaping at the sheer nonsense I was watching. 24 hours later, I’m still none the wiser as to the actual storyline of the movie, so I’ve decided to make a list of my major issues with the film, in the hope that Duncan Jones or someone associated with the movie will find it and be able to clarify for me. Please. Continue reading

As some of you may have heard via Twitter/Facebook, on Friday I became the newest member of the team at ScreenInvasion.com. A Brief Guide To The Worst Tracks of 2011
Despite the fact that I’ve spent the majority of the year immersed in Mountain Goats and Joanna Newsom (it’s been a good year), I haven’t been able to escape the fact that there have been some major musical turds in 2011. Here’s a handy cut-out-and-keep (well, sort of) guide to the musical crimes of 2011. Continue reading
Why I Am Not Thrilled About The Stone Roses Reformation
In one of the most hotly anticipated press conferences of the last…4 days, Ian Brown and co. revealed that they would be reforming after a 15 year hiatus. Understandably, the music world hit the roof. According to NME, this is ‘the event of the decade’. If that is the case, then it’s been a pretty poor decade. Continue reading
Hidden Gems – Tiger Lounge, Cooper St, Manchester
Ask a typical Salford student their club of choice on a Saturday night, and you’ll most likely hear 5th Avenue, Sankeys, or (heaven forbid) Tiger Tiger. But if those venues don’t tickle your pickle, fear not. Tiger Lounge, opposite Wetherspoons on Cooper Street, is a completely different experience. Playing Rock n Roll, Motown, Swing, and everything in between, you’ll find a different crowd in here than you might find stumbling around 5th Ave on a Saturday night, intent on pulling and/or puking. Continue reading
Beirut – Tuesday 6th September, Manchester Academy
When it was announced that Beirut would be performing at Manchester Academy 1, many eyebrows, including my own, were raised. Surely they’d be better suited in one of the smaller, more intimate venues? Continue reading
